Check out the article on Pavlov’s Dog, as this is the start point for anchoring as we know it.It is a process of creating a connection between positive experience you have had in your life, positive emotions and states to a physical anchor on your body.
Think of that song you hear from school that makes you think of a group of friends, or that perfume that reminds you of ‘that ex’.
These are anchors, and anchoring in the context of coaching is about creating powerful positive ‘resource’ anchors for you to draw on in times of frustration, fear or indecision.
Most coaches will help you create a anchor on a knuckle or ear lobe, some where subtle that you wont accidentally touch and trigger the anchor. It only takes a few minutes to create with a coach, and from there it is just up to you to use it when you are procrastinating, afraid of acting or in need of a pick me up.
