Time Streams

Time Stream Elicitation

Pre frame the time stream, people generally do have a spatial awareness of time, and everyone conceives it differently.

ELICITATION #1

“Now if I we’re to ask you which direction the past seems like it is for you, I have the sense that you would point in some direction in relation to your body… Why don’t you just go ahead and point, so that you know you know where your past is. It may seem like you’re guessing, but just go ahead and point. (individual points). Good. Now you have a past, and I know you have a future, so why don’t you just go ahead and point, so that you know, where the future is? (individual points). Good. Now notice that having the past in one direction and the future in another sort of implies a stream, or COULD imply a stream…?

ELICITATION #2

“Can you remember something that happened one week ago?

Good, as you do, can you notice where it comes from?”

Repeat the process for 1 & 2 for 1 month ago, 1 year ago, 5 years ago, and 10 years ago.

Repeat for the future

“Do you notice that this arrangement implies a line, or some linear arrangement of your memories?”

FIRST TEST ELICITATION

Now, would you bring to mind the direction that you pointed to (or memories of the past and future that you notice). Do you notice that they imply a line?”

If No: “Well, could you notice that?”

If still no: “Is your past arranged by location, for example, where you lived?”

If yes: “How would it look if, for the purposes of this process, it were stretched out in a line?”

“Good, now when I say line, I don’t mean to imply only visual, because in a moment I’m going to ask you to float up about that line, and by float, I also mean as sounds floating on the wind, or floating in the bathtub, or visually. However you float up above your time stream is perfect. So, can you just float up above your time stream. (associated)

Now, remaining above your time stream just float back into the past (pause). Are you there? (Go back to the beginning of your time line. Notice at the beginning there is white light and it feels good.)”

“Good, float back towards now, and stop there (pause). Are you there? Good. Now, facing towards the future, float up higher and father back into the past.

And now, go right out to the future and there is white light and it is safe and fun at the end and look back to now. Are you there?”

“Now, float up higher. Float so high that your time stream seem like once inch long.” (Pause)

“Good, float back to now, and float down into now and come back in the room.” (Pause) “How was that?”

Strategic Visioning

  1. Have the individual CREATE their goal

“Before doing the process of Strategic Visioning it’s important to write your goal down, and ensure that it meets the CREATE your outcome criteria … ” Coach them to ensure it fulfills the criteria

  1. Have them associate into the evidence procedure

“Go ahead and step right into the goal, so that you are looking through your own eyes, hearing the sounds around you and feeling the feelings of being right there inside of it.”

  1. Adjust the submodalities

“Now if it’s black and white, change it to color; if you need to adjust the brightness, just turn the brightness right up; make it most compelling for you ... ” etc

  1. Have them dissociate

“Now step out of the picture, but leave your body in it so that you see yourself in the picture.”

  1. Ask them to rise above the time stream

“Take that picture in your hands and rise up above the stream of time.

  1. Have them energise with 3 HA breaths

“Now, energise that picture with 3 Ha breaths.” Breath with them and pace their breathing.

  1. Have them float out into future

“Float out into the future, until you’re right up above the date where you said this would occur.

  1. Ask them to insert goal into time stream

“Drop the picture down into the time stream now.

  1. Ask them to look back toward now

“Turn and look back off toward the past, and notice that everything that had to happen for

that event to occur is rapidly shifting in the stream of time to support it, at the unconscious level.

10. Then have them look off to the future

“And now, turn and look off toward the future and notice that the future is changing as well ... it’s brighter, more brilliant and more alive.”

11. Ask them to float back to now and into room

“And now, knowing that all that is out there waiting for you, come all the way back toward now and right back down into now and into the room.”

Future Pacing

Inductive Future Pace

“So what I want you to do now is just step out to some indefinite time in the future where in the past that old problem might have hindered you or held you back in some way, and notice what happens for you now?”

Directonalized Future Pace

“Go ahead and step out to one month in the future, having made all those changes now. Notice how you are behaving in new and powerful ways. Notice how the people around you are responding differently and more positively toward you in light of the new you that you are presenting in the world, and notice how good it feels to be the kind of person who can create those kind of results easily.”

Backslide (Use the DIRECTIONALIZED FUTURE PACE first and follow with)

“Now, what I want you to do is step out 3 months into the future and notice the snow ball effect that this change has had in your life. Notice what’s going on for you. Notice how sure you are inside yourself, the level of personal confidence that you have, and notice how that’s affected the other areas of your life as well. Notice how good that feels inside. Now, as you step out to 10 months into the future notice that you slip up. Notice that you fall into that old pattern of behaviour just for a moment.

But now, go ahead and step out 1year into the future. And notice how that little slip up only served to give you more momentum towards achieving the outcomes you were committed to achieving. Notice that as you take that change with you, you can see the snowball effect that it’s created in your life. Notice what’s going on for you now one year into the future. And notice perhaps that some things have changed in your life that you wouldn’t even have ever expected. As a result of your having made that change so long ago. Notice how good it feels inside, and notice what you say to yourself in your own mind when you think of hinging the power to take your life in the direction that you choose to take it, want to take it and deserve to take it.”
